How to Use Integrity PowerBlend

Mix Design:

Here is a white concrete countertop mix recipe for GFRC using 1 bag of Integrity PowerBlend:

• 1 bag of Integrity PowerBlend (45.00 lb)
• 1.32 lbs of 19mm AR Glass Fibers (2.5% dose)
• 6.63 lbs of water (0.30 water-cement ratio)
• Add a tiny amount of UltraFlow superplasticizer as needed. (1 lb of UltraFlow will treat up to 10 bags of PowerBlend when making SCC/direct cast concrete.)

This makes:

• About 6 sq ft of concrete at 3/4" thick, or
• About 5 sq ft of concrete at 1" thick.

To calculate how many bags of PowerBlend (plus fibers and UltraFlow) you need for a project:

1. Determine the square footage
2. Decide how thick you are making the concrete.
3. Divide the square footage by 6 if you are making the concrete 3/4" thick or by 5 if you are making the concrete 1" thick.

For example, suppose you need to make an 85 sq ft kitchen countertop:

1. Square footage: 85
2. Thickness: 1"
3. Bags needed: 85 / 5 = 17 bags

If you instead decided to make this countertop 1.5" thick, you would need to multiply 17 bags by 1.5 = 25.5 bags (so purchase 26 bags).

If you are planning to use fluid concrete for SCC/direct casting, divide the number of bags by 10 to determine how many 1-lb jars of UltraFlow to buy. If you are hand packing a stiff mix, you will need far less UltraFlow. See the UltraFlow page for detailed dosing instructions.

Coverage:

Some manufacturers state their coverage at 1 inch thick, even though this is not a typical thickness. However, for comparison: One 45 pound bag of PowerBlend will make about 53 pounds of concrete that covers about 6.1 square feet at 3/4" thick. The same amount of concrete (53 lbs) will cover about 4.6 square feet at 1 inch thick.

• At the per-bag price of $39.99, this equates to $7.66 per square foot for 3/4" concrete or $10.22 per square foot for 1" concrete.
• At the half pallet price of $35.71 per bag, this equates to $5.83 per square foot for 3/4" concrete or $7.78 per square foot for 1" concrete.
• At the full pallet price of $33.93 per bag, this equates to $5.54 per square foot for 3/4" concrete or $7.39 per square foot for 1" concrete.

Mixing Instructions:

Concrete made with PowerBlend is most effective when added slowly to your mix water.

For flowable (SCC or direct cast) concrete, always chill your concrete using ice to achieve a concrete temperature of 55°F to 65°F. Chilling your concrete greatly increases working time and improves flowability. Use the CCI calculator for determining ice quantities needed.

1. Dry blend the PowerBlend, plus pigments and UltraFlow if needed.
2. Add all of the mix water plus ice to a separate mixing bucket.
3. Gradually add all the PowerBlend to the water and blend until fully mixed.
   • • Start by adding about 1/3 of the PowerBlend and blend until all of the dry material wets out.
     • Add half of the remaining PowerBlend and blend further until all of the dry material wets out.
     • Add remaining PowerBlend and blend until all dry ingredients are incorporated.
     • Scrape the bucket and the mixing paddles well, then mix continuously on medium to high speed for no less than 2 full minutes. This is most important for flowable SCC/direct cast mixes.
4. Add fibers last. Gradually add the fibers to prevent clumping and mix slowly to prevent whipping air into the mix. Ensure the fibers are fully wetted out and well dispersed throughout the mix. Do not mix on high speed.
