Compound Concrete started the way a lot of good concrete businesses do, with one project a family did for themselves. Then word of mouth slowly turned a personal project into a thriving family business, with husband and wife team Daniel and Ashley Fessler at the helm.

More than a decade later, their Gilbert, Arizona shop serves homes and businesses across Metro Phoenix. They build GFRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) countertops, sinks, fireplace surrounds, outdoor kitchens, and furniture, and they have added terrazzo and lime plaster along the way.

What stands out in Compound Concrete’s work is how deliberately they push each material toward what it does best. Their GFRC pieces lean on the material’s strength-to-weight ratio for large, sculptural, and finely detailed forms that would be impractical in conventional cast concrete.

Their terrazzo shows the same care at a smaller scale. He builds each custom blend from portland cement, fine sand, and natural stone aggregates like marble and granite, in sizes ranging from 1/4″ chips up to large Venetian chips, so every surface has its own character.

The values behind the business are just as clear. Compound Concrete promises clients it will not compromise quality for profit. The shop is also upfront that concrete isn’t for everyone, and it takes time to explain the material’s natural variation so clients go in with realistic expectations. That kind of honesty makes for happier clients and fewer surprises after installation.

That standard carries through to the last step. For pieces that need serious protection, Compound Concrete trusts much of their work to Omega Concrete Countertop Sealer. See more of it at www.compoundconcrete.com.
