Jeff Mahan’s path into concrete started at home. When his family moved to Dublin, Ohio, they bought a 1979 house that needed plenty of updating, and the entryway stairs were first on the list. The Mahans had lived with concrete countertops in their previous Colorado home and loved how warm and organic they felt, so Jeff decided concrete was the right material for the space and took on the stairs himself.
That first project grew into Elevation Concrete Studio, which Mahan launched in 2019 and runs in the Columbus area. He works with homeowners, designers, architects, and contractors on countertops, bathroom vanities, fireplace surrounds, furniture, and larger architectural pieces.
A great example is this concrete staircase in an office building – a “step up” from his first stair shelves project.
In December 2023, with four years of projects behind him, Mahan came to The Concrete Countertop Institute for a multi-day hands-on workshop. Many working fabricators assume training is only for beginners, but experienced pros often get the most out of it, because they arrive with real questions from real jobs and leave understanding why the methods work.
Mahan builds with the same system he trained with. He relies on several Integrity mix products for his casting, and he seals his work with both Omega and Ovation. Omega is CCI’s professional-grade two-part urethane, essentially stain proof and acid proof once cured, while Ovation is a single-component sealer that offers a satin or gloss sheen with very slightly color enhancing results. Having both on hand lets a fabricator match the sealer to the piece and the client.
The range of his portfolio shows how far solid fundamentals carry. The same attention to clean lines shows up whether he’s building tiered commercial seating, a kitchen island, a home bar, or a bedside table.
We’re glad to count Jeff Mahan among CCI alumni. See more of his work at elevationconcretestudio.com or on Instagram at @elevationconcretestudio.
